SPEARFISH - Decorating has begun in earnest for the eighth annual Spearfish Holidazzle Light Parade to be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in downtown Spearfish.

One sort-of-new entry in this year's parade will be the Premier Bankcard/Prairie Hills Transit trolley. The trolley, owned by Prairie Hills Transit, was brand new in the 2006 parade. Its forest green and cream-colored paint glistened behind red and green lights earlier this week. However, last year's parade date landed on the same night as Prairie Hill's staff Christmas party, so the trolley stayed in the garage.

One of the primary sponsors of the trolley is Premier Bankcard. Spearfish Mayor Jerry Krambeck, who is the maintenance supervisor at Premier, suggested the trolley be brought out for the parade.

The financial services company based in Sioux Falls has a growing call center in Spearfish, and employees there annually sponsor a Light Parade float. This year, Premier officials and Prairie Hills Transit agreed to jointly send an entry through the parade.

The trolley was decorated this week, and Premier Bankcard staffers Catrina Rodgers and Rhyann Gaddis were making preparations to ride on the trolley. Someone wearing a Santa Claus costume will also ride the float.

Black Hills Power is sponsoring the Spearfish Holidazzle Light Parade and its cash prizes.

According to parade organizer Cami Dohman, more than three dozen entries are expected. Judges will award $100 in Spearfish Bucks in most creative design, Mayor's choice award and Christmas spirit.

A free chili feed will be held at the Spearfish Park Pavilion immediately after the parade.

Planners will also accept entries up to parade time. Floats start lining up at 5 p.m. at Spearfish Park parking lot.

For more information, call Cami Dohman at 641-2833 or Marcia Kazmer at 559-0359.
