RAPID CITY - State highway regional engineer Todd Seaman of Rapid City has been hired to manage contracts for the Sanford Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory at the Homestake gold mine in Lead.

Seaman has been with the South Dakota Department of Transportation for 23 years, most recently supervising the Rapid City region, which has a budget of $90 million.

The Sanford Laboratory, which will be built 4,850 feet underground at Homestake, will be built and run by the South Dakota Science and Technology Authority.

Dr. Jose Alonso, recently hired as Sanford Lab director, said Seaman would manage contracts for underground and surface construction and renovation. Seaman will start work in Lead on Dec. 3.

Seaman earned a degree in civil engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
