The Black Hat Handcrew from the Black Hills on Thursday joined fire crews fighting the Old Stage Fire north of Boulder, Colo.
The forest fire covers more than 1,000 acres and is threatening several thousand homes, according to a news release.
The Black Hat crew is one of two hand crews that state's Wildland Fire Suppression Division operates throughout the year.
