The man who drowned in a kayak accident Saturday in the Bad River about 70 miles southwest of Fort Pierre has been identified as 45-year-old Kevin Honness.

Honness was a senior field biologist at the Ted Turner Bad River Ranch.

Jones County Sheriff Fred Koester says Honness was in a kayak following two female staffers in a canoe.

The women were about 1 mile ahead of him and waited. They saw a paddle float by and later found the kayak submerged between two trees in the river.

Honness' body was recovered in the kayak.
