Curt Nupen, who has served on the Meade County Commission for more than 15 years, announced this week he will not seek re-election to a fifth term.

His current term ends at the end of 2008.

Nupen, a Republican, represents District 4, an area that includes most of Piedmont and Black Hawk west of Interstate 90.

Nupen cited progress in the county including the formation of two new cities, Summerset and Piedmont; the paving of parts of Elk Creek Road, Haines Avenue and Erickson Ranch Road; work on completing the New Underwood Road north toward S.D. Highway 34; and more than $10 million in new construction in the county this past year.

Nupen said he is now considering running for the Meade 46-1 District School Board.
