The head of a Rapid City-based Native American financial institution is among featured panelists at the Clinton Global Initiative in New York this week.
Elsie Meeks, president and chief executive officer of First Nations Oweesta Corporation, joins the likes of 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus in discussing Native economic development strategies. The sessions run through Friday.
Oweesta Corp., originally the Oweesta Program and Fund of First Nations Development Institute, has operated since the mid-1980s. It is a private, nonprofit organization considered a national leader in developing financial services to Native people.
