RAPID CITY - A 26-year-old Pine Ridge man has made a federal court appearance on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Prosecutors say Waylon C. Black Crow Jr. was a Pine Ridge tribal police officer when the alleged assault occurred.

Court papers say Black Crow assaulted a woman with a handgun and shot the gun several times during a fight in the Corn Creek Community in Mellette County.

He was charged Wednesday.
