The Rapid City Police Department, Pennington County Sheriff's Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol will be expanding patrols around local schools as the new school year gets under way.

Motorists speeding and failing to yield continue to cause the most accidents in the county. In an effort to protect students, the law enforcement agencies will conduct saturation patrols around schools and on school bus routes.

Drivers are urged to observe school zone speed limits, crosswalks and school bus safety laws.
