The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board presented several awards at its Dec. 13 meeting.

Dirk Gustin was named Volunteer of the Year for his efforts to attract mountain bikers to the area. A member of the Black Hills Mountain Biking Association, he helped organize the first Fat Tire Festival in Rapid City in May. He also helped develop new trails and taught mountain-biking classes.

Acme Bicycles, owned by Tim Rangitsch, was named volunteer business of the year. Rangitsch worked to expand trails and riding opportunities in the area and created on his business Web site a clearinghouse for information about rides and events.

Skyline Drive Preservation was named Volunteer Organization of the Year for its 11 years of work to preserve the natural beauty of the Skyline Drive area by purchasing undeveloped land to create the Skyline Wilderness Area and donating it to the city.
