RAPID CITY - Tourism and community development expert Roger Brooks of Destination Development, known as the "Dr. Phil of tourism and downtowns," will present a half-day seminar, "The Art of Branding a Community," on Monday at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The seminar begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 12:15 p.m.

Brooks and his company help communities go beyond the old marketing messages of "we have something for everyone" and "a great place, to live, work and play."

He says that people want a unique experience, and a well-branded community promises the visitor an experience that is different or better than what they can find closer to home.

This free workshop is sponsored by the City of Rapid City, Rapid City Business Improvement District, Dream Design International, Firehouse Brewing, Prairie Edge Trading Company, Fourfront Designs and Thurston Properties.

Anyone interested in attending should RSVP to Lisa Storms at the Rapid City Convention & Visitors Bureau by phone at 718-8487 or by e-mailing storms@visitrapidcity.com.
