A $79,762 grant to the Rapid City school district will equip a school-based community health clinic at the new General Beadle school in North Rapid.

Rapid City schools and the Pennington County Public Health Department are in the process of completing a school-based health clinic to expand services for families in the community. Upon completion, the clinic will provide primary nursing, medical care, dental care, optical and counseling services.

"This added resource will contribute to student achievement and success in school," superintendent Peter Wharton said in a news release.

Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., requested the Department of Health and Human Services funds in the fiscal year 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill.
