PIERRE - South Dakota's juvenile corrections facilities were recently honored for their work in monitoring and improving their programs.

State Treatment and Rehabilitation Academy staff received the Barbara Allen-Hagen award from the Performance-based Standards (PbS) project during a ceremony in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 12.

The Youth Challenge Center program at STAR Academy was given the Allen-Hagen Correction Facility award based on its focus on safety issues and integration of PbS into daily management operations.

STAR Academy has participated in the PbS project since 2001.
