James Martin, a professor of geology and geological engineering at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, will be inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame at Chamberlain in September, along with 12 others.

South Dakota is one of the richest fossil areas in the world. Martin and his students have made significant discoveries of marine reptiles from the banks of the Missouri River to the Wyoming border. Martin has been honored by the National Science Foundation, the Discovery Channel and numerous other organizations.

Martin also serves as paleontology program coordinator and curator of vertebrate paleontology at the School of Mines. He will be officially inducted and honored at ceremonies held Sept. 19 and 20.
