Information packets are available at the city finance office for people interested in running for the Rapid City council during this June's municipal election.

Candidates may begin circulating nominating petitions March 1. Petitions containing the signatures of at least 50 people registered to vote in the candidate's ward must be filed by March 25 with the finance office, 300 Sixth St. Anyone with questions should call the city finance office at 394-4143.

On June 3, voters in all five wards will elect a council representative to serve a two-year term. Current council members whose terms will expire this year include Tom Johnson in Ward 1; Sam Kooiker in Ward 2; Karen Gundersen Olson in Ward 3; Lloyd LaCroix in Ward 4; and Malcom Chapman in Ward 5.

The deadline to register to vote in the city election is May 19. Voters may register at the city finance office or the county auditor's office at Pennington County Courthouse.
