Some current service-club members blame the faster pace of today's society for the lack of younger service-club members.
But 44-year-old Jason Koppman manages to keep up with that pace and serve as an active member of Rotary Club.
He has twin 12-year-old daughters, runs North Western Warehouse Co. and still finds time to attend weekly Rotary meetings and to help with Storybook Island, one of the club's main projects.
Koppman said it is difficult to juggle all of his life's responsibilities and still be an active member of Rotary. But he says it is important.
"I think it's important to do that so that you can give back to the community that is giving to you and your business," he said.
Koppman tracks his busy schedule by keeping a calendar with important dates on it, including his daughters' dance programs and school programs, as well as Rotary meetings and other functions.
A typical day can be very hectic, but Koppman said he enjoys finding the time for his various responsibilities.
He will have to continue to juggle those responsibilities while serving his term as club president in 2009.
He believes younger members could have fun being involved in the club. But the only way for busy people who think they don't have time to join is to make time, Koppman said.
"You just make the time to do what you need to such as go to the lunch meetings," he said.
"You schedule it into your time and you just do it."
A third-generation member, Koppman hopes his children will keep the tradition alive and join Rotary or another service organization, just as his father and grandfather encouraged him to do.
"Hopefully, one of my daughters would want to be in a club," he said.
"They know that I'm quite active in those because they come out with me to Storybook Island and help put up lights. So they know their dad is active in Rotary."
