PIERRE - South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department officials say they're looking for historical postcards relating to the Roughlock Falls Nature Area in Spearfish Canyon.

Improved parking and signage, interpretive boardwalk trails and an enhanced interpretive nature trail are part of an improvement project at the nature area.

Planners are seeking original postcards to combine the natural history with the cultural history of the area, the GF&P said in a release.

Part of the project will place six interpretive panels along the one-mile nature trail.

Chief of interpretation Bradley Block said original postcards provide clues to the past and highlight the changes from one generation to the next.

"By using various postcards, the interpretive panels can' demonstrate that visitors have been attracted to Roughlock Falls Nature Area for many years. From the few that have already been collected, past visitor comments rave about the beauty behind the site … which echoes modern day remarks," Block said.

The project is to be done by early June.
