On Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15 and 16 in the area at the base of Devils Tower, David Osmundsen will be demonstrating the art of historic blacksmithing.

Omundsen's blacksmithing passion began in 1976, when he kindled his first forge fire in Colorado. He learned the art from Slim Spurling in exchange for working in the shop.

In 1994, after operating his own forge in Maine, where he made hand-forged napkin rings for first lady Rosalyn Carter, Omundsen moved to Buffalo, Wyo., and reopened his Arrowhead Forge. Omundsen's demonstrations will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

There is no charge for the programs, but there is an entrance fee of $10/vehicle into the monument. For more information, call the Devils Tower Visitor Center at 307-467-5283 Ext. 635.
