Several area schools are starting two hours late this morning as the after effects of a weekend blizzard lingered throughout western South Dakota.
Regular classes in the Box Elder, Spearfish, Edgemont and Wall school districts are all starting two hours late.
In Box Elder, that includes classes at Vandenberg, Francis Case and Badger Clark elementary schools and Douglas High School and Douglas Middle School. In Spearfish, it includes East and West elementary schools, as well as Spearfish Middle School and Spearfish High School.
Meanwhile, the high winds that accompanied Saturday's snowfall will continue through the day today as temperatures will struggle to break the zero degree barrier in the Black Hills and surrounding region.
Most of western South Dakota remains under a wind chill warning through Monday as wind chills are expected to be -25 degrees to -55 degrees throughout the morning, according to the National Weather Service in Rapid City. Highs are expected to be -5 degrees to -1 degrees throughout the Hills and surrounding foothills. Lows could reach as low as -20 degrees.
And the rest of the week isn't looking much better. Highs Tuesday are expected to reach 3 degrees, rising by Wednesday to a week high of 22 degrees as the arctic cold front could remain in the region for more than a week.
