OK, it's not like you need to have someone to persuade you to go out and vote Tuesday.
This year's presidential race promises to be unpredictable, and the unlikeliest of scenarios in which South Dakota will play a part in a national primary and the top contenders not only will make a stop here, but make several stops here, has injected some excitement for state Democrats.
Meanwhile, Republican primaries promise to be the toughest race for several folks seeking state level offices.
And while independents won't have much sway in the primary, remember, there's always November, which will have the presidential election and a slate full of ballot issues, including the re-emergence of a ban on abortions.
But I digress.
For those who still need some motivation this year to get out and vote, I offer these online "sources" who make some strong cases for individuals. Mostly, though, I would say they give you an idea of what these candidates backers think is important and what they think others might think is important.
Top 10 Reasons to vote for Hillary Clinton
This entry by Willy Gissen, a self-proclaimed "committed liberal and evangelical" highlights many of the talking points Clinton supporters have been pressing in the campaign.
One of the key issues that he may have undersold is his No. 5 point, "It would be good for our country for a woman to be elected President." My 7-year-old daughter, Sophie, couldn't agree more.
When I told her a few weeks ago that President Clinton (meaning, former president Bill Clinton) would be speaking in Rapid City, she nearly jumped out of her car seat.
"She is?" she asked wide-eyed.
So I had to explain to her that, no, it would be her husband, Bill Clinton.
"Oh," she said somewhat dejectedly. "I thought it was the girl. I want to vote for the girl."
Her reaction made me happy on many levels.
Top 10 Reasons to vote for Barack Obama
One of the things you'll notice about many Obama Web sites is that there is a lot of talk about Clinton. Whereas Clinton supporters have been trying to sell the image of her as president, much of Obama's supporters talk has been trying to sell the image of him as a presidential candidate.
This Web site is indicative of that.
It is also indicative of how much bolder Obama is in stating his case. Leading off with the war issue, it immediately goes into a controversial issue at No. 2 with Obama's willingness to have dialogue with Iran during the first year of his Presidency.
Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain took at shot at him for that stance just Wednesday, saying Obama would have more time to talk with Iran leaders than U.S. generals.
But it is that boldness to take a stance that works well for both Obama and McCain.
Top 10 reasons to vote for John McCain
Let's be realistic: If McCain doesn't win South Dakota in November, it would be a shocker.
Forget the fact that right-wingers such as Limbaugh and Hannity have blistered the "not-conservative-enough" candidate, he is the most conservative of the potential candidates.
Don't believe the hype that there's little difference between McCain and Clinton. Don't believe me? Check out the talking points on the Illinois Review.
Now, imagine that the points were laid out for Clinton, let alone Obama.
Now, stop your chuckling.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the nation will embrace the feisty McCain, but I have a good idea about South Dakota.
Top 5 reasons YOUth should vote
One thing about Democratic primaries: They tend to rely on the youth vote.
I find it interesting that youth have to be sold on the idea of why it would be a good idea to vote, but this bit of advice from About.com isn't all bad. Still, the fifth point (If you don't vote you really have no right to complain about government decisions you don't like - no matter how much they actually suck) sounds a bit like a grandparent telling those whippersnappers why they have to vote.
Please, just a little humor. Things get so serious so fast when talking politics with some folks that it's nice to have a little humor.
Unfortunately, this is exactly that - just a little humor.
