A 64-year-old Dupree woman was killed Thursday morning when she lost control of the sport utility vehicle she was driving and it rolled into the ditch.
Lavonne Jane Condon was driving her 2004 Chevy Trailblazer south on S.D. Highway 73 about 12 miles south of Faith at 8:20 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, she attempted to pass another vehicle and crested a hill, where she saw another vehicle coming toward her. She tried to get back into the southbound lane, but lost control of the vehicle, which skidded into the ditch. The vehicle began to roll and Condon, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected, according to the Highway Patrol.
She was flown to Rapid City Regional Hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, according to the Highway Patrol.
An investigation is under way.
Assisting at the site were the Faith Police Department and the Meade County Sheriff’s Office.
