Permits for a petroleum refinery at Elk Point and a change of ownership for an unused permit to mine gold above Spearfish Canyon are on this week's state Board of Minerals and Environment agenda.
The four-day meeting begins today in Pierre at the Matthew Environmental Education and Training Center in the Foss Building, 523 East Capitol Ave.
The board will continue the contested case hearing regarding an air quality permit application from Hyperion Refining for its proposed refinery near Elk Point.
The board also will consider transfer of a large-scale gold mine permit from E4 Energy to Bald Mountain Mining Company, operated by Paul Miller. The permit, originally held by Homestake Mining Co., has not been used and is for an area above Spearfish Canyon near mining by Wharf Resources, according to Department of Environment and Natural Resources staff members.
