ELLSWORTH, AFB - On your marks, get set, cook!

Ellsworth Air Force Base's first 'Military Top Chef' competition is scheduled for July 2, starting at 2 p.m. at the Bandit Inn Dining Facility on base.

The competition will feature Ellsworth's culinary professionals competing against their boss, award-winning chef Tech. Sgt. Rhodello Nuval, Bandit Dining Facility manager.

The event is based off the Iron Chef TV show. Participants will have one hour to prepare an appetizer and main course with the featured 'secret ingredient', which will be unveiled the day of the competition.

The junior ranking chefs will have five minutes to research a recipe but Sergeant Nuval will make his dishes on the fly without research, according to the contest rules.

The winner receives a free two-night stay at a resort in Las Vegas, courtesy of Sgt. Nuval.

"The goal of this event is to promote teamwork, bring out culinary creativity and thinking out of the box for culinary preparation and to promote communication between teammates that will hopefully flow into shift work communication," Sgt. Nuval said.
