A hand-painted ornament depicting Wind Cave's famous boxwork formation and its bison herd hangs on the White House Christmas tree.

The theme of this year's White House tree is "Holiday in the National Parks."

The 18-foot Fraser fir stands in the Blue Room. The tree is decorated with handmade ornaments representing the country's 391 National Park Service sites.

The Wind Cave ornament was designed and painted by former park employee Sabrina Henry. Henry used acrylic paint to create a three-dimensional look on a five-inch sphere.

"Coming up with the idea was easy," Henry said. "The hard part was designing the painting on a round surface. It took a few weeks, but it is a privilege to represent the park in creating a piece of history for the White House."
