Nearly 500 cars and about 1,000 people from all over North America are in the Black Hills this weekened for the 37th annual Black Hills Corvette Classic.

The public is invited to the Show & Shine from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today. Main Street Spearfish will become "Vette Street, USA" and the People's Car Show. This year, in addition to the Merchants' Choice Award which is presented at the Show & Shine, local citizens and kids will get the opportunity to vote for their favorite cars.

The public is invited to come down to Vette Street, check the number on the window plaque of your favorite car, then vote at a downtown store. Ballots will be collected and turned in at the merchandise trailer by 8 p.m. These two People's Choice Awards will be presented Saturday night during the awards ceremony.

In addition to long standing events as the autocross and drag races, some new events have been added.

Two new guided tours have been added, one to Mount Rushmore National Memorial and one to Devils Tower. Also new this year is a golf tournament and Funkana. Funkana is a slow speed, timed driving course event. There are a few stops on the course where the driver and navigator will perform an activity. Accumulated points will be based on driving accuracy, time, and completed activities.
