Bison on a Southern Hills ranch will be rounded up Saturday, Oct. 18, to select 30 buffalo that will form a new herd on a native prairie in Iowa.

The Nature Conservancy said it is helping to cull the herd on the Lame Johnny Creek Ranch near Wind Cave National Park. The animals were selected because tests show they are not hybrids, with DNA tests showing there has been no interbreeding with cattle.

The buffalo will be sent to the Broken Kettle Grassland Preserve near Sioux City, Iowa.
