The Indigenous Diabetes Education Alliance raised $7,300 during a special fundraising auction at Crazy Horse Memorial on Saturday. Aug. 15. Event organizers hope to make it an annual event.
According to Susan Ricci, IDEA director, this fundraiser will help her program to begin a new project.
"We have been hoping to produce an education video, narrated by Native American children for other Native American children, on the benefits of healthy eating, exercise and obesity prevention. We can reach more children in more schools through this type of media. This was the jump start we needed," she said.
IDEA is a nonprofit agency that supports diabetes prevention programming for Native American children in western South Dakota.
