Construction crews worked Friday to demolish the old General Beadle Elementary School building on Van Buren Street in Rapid City. Crews cleared out asbestos before they started to demolish the building Wednesday, principal Robin Gillespie said, and were expected to have demolition finished by the end of the day Friday.

Students have been attending classes in part of the newly constructed building on the same property since November. The second half of the building, which will house the gymnasium, medical center and other agency offices, is expected to be completed by fall of 2008.
