RAPID CITY - A Rapid City man was indicted Thursday on charges of attempted first-degree murder for severely beating a woman.
Shane Anderson, 28, was arrested earlier this month when a Rapid City Police Officer happened upon him beating the woman outside in downtown Rapid City.
Anderson is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, which carries a maximum of 25 years in prison and an alternate count of aggravated assault, which carries a maximum of 15 years.
Paul Winter, deputy state's attorney for Pennington County, said Anderson did not use a weapon. He was arrested when the police officer came upon the incident and intervened.
Winter would not comment further on the relationship between Anderson and the victim or the extent of her injuries.
Anderson remains in custody at Pennington County Jail on a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
