Disaster grants earmarked for hospitals and clinics

PIERRE - Gov. Mike Rounds has announced the approval of more than $1.2 million in grants to help hospitals and clinics with their disaster-preparedness efforts.

Since 2004, the state has awarded hospitals and rural health clinics more than $4.7 million to acquire isolation and decontamination equipment and pharmaceutical stockpiles and to conduct exercises and drills.

"We recognize that the real response to any disaster begins at the local level," Rounds said in a prepared release. "We're pleased that we can provide these dollars to local health care providers across the state so they can strengthen their disaster preparations."

The grants include $569,800 to develop and exercise disaster plans with other responders.

The remaining $640,695 will provide basic life saving equipment, supplies and durable medical equipment.

Area facilities receiving grants are: Bison Clinic, $800; Custer Regional Hospital, $4,000; Eagle Butte Indian Health Service Hospital, $6,300; Faith Clinic, $800; Fall River Hospital, $27,800; Black Hills Veterans Administration, $12,000; Isabel Clinic, $800; Kyle Clinic, $6,194; Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital, $13,410; Five Counties Clinic and Nursing Home (Lemmon), $1,200; Lower Brule Indian Health Service Clinic, $800; McIntosh Clinic, $800; McLaughlin Indian Health Service Clinic, $800; Bennett County Healthcare Center (Martin), $16,835, Mission Clinic, $800; Murdo Jones County Clinic, $800, Hans P. Peterson Memorial Hospital (Philip), $11,883; St. Mary's Healthcare Center (Pierre), $26,169; Pine Ridge Indian Health Service Hospital, $30,480; Community Health Center of the Black Hills, $1,200; Black Hills Surgery Center, $2,000; Rapid City Regional Hospital, $62,250; Same Day Surgery Center, $2,000; Sioux San Indian Health Services Hospital, $14,278; Rosebud Indian Health Service Hospital, $12,000; Spearfish Regional Hospital, $12,000; Spearfish Surgery Center, $2,000; Sturgis Regional Hospital, $10,500; Wall Clinic, $800; Wanblee Health Center, $800; Prairie Lakes Healthcare Center, $12,000; White River Clinic, $800, and Winner Regional Healthcare Center, $13,500.
