Students in Western Dakota Technical Institute's Transportation Technology program presented the keys to a repaired van to a Rapid City man.
The engine in David Schlinkert's GMC van failed, leaving him with no transportation except his wheelchair. Schlinkert has often been seen moving through town in his wheelchair with a "Slow Moving" sign attached to the rear of the chair.
One of Schlinkert's friends contacted WDTI's Transportation Technology program for help. Students assembled a new engine and installed it in the van. Schlinkert will now be safely back on the road.
The students included Tonya Swanston, Matt Schmidt, Zac Pengra, Ryan Scharf, Shaun Quigley, Tyler Larson, Sam Gillen, Allex Klysma and Alicia Figuerura.
