Financing applications for Sly Hill Road reconstruction moved forward July 6.

Sturgis City Council members gave City Manager David Boone unanimous approval to apply for financing.

Boone said the city will file a state Department of Transportation infrastructure bank loan application for an amount up to $500,000. He said this is a no-interest loan for recommended improvements.

Engineering recommendations featured use of a soldier pile-lagging beam wall to stabilize the north Sturgis hill. That carries an estimated cost of $300,000. Road rebuilding and reconstruction will cost about $200,000.

Sturgis Mayor Maury LaRue said the city will make the application immediately. He said federal money to pay back those funds will come later.
