Workers have temporarily fixed an intake valve to get clean water flowing again to Cheyenne River Sioux tribal residents.
Officials worried about a week ago that turbid water in the Cheyenne River might mean the rural water system in the area would have to shut down.
A problem with an intake installed in deep Missouri River water last year had forced the water system to use an older intake on the Cheyenne River. Then, heavy rain raised the Cheyenne and carried sediment and silt.
Tribal Chairman Joseph Brings Plenty says the Corps of Engineers helped with the temporary fix. And he says a permanent fix for the new intake should be in place within days.
