Robert never had any money. His family was very poor. Then, just before Christmas, he came to Club for Boys with a $20 bill that an uncle had sent him. He announced to anyone who would listen, "I can do whatever I want with this money! I can play video games all day long if I want to."

The boys and others had put money into a giving jar throughout the year, and at the Christmas party that afternoon, the money was given to a family who had lost their home in a fire and who had been living in a motel.

Moved by the generosity of the boys, the mother sobbed as the money was presented to her. Robert walked up and gave her his $20 bill.

"She needed it more than I did," Robert explained when others asked why he had given all his money away. When a board member heard the story, he rewarded Robert with $20 in quarters.

But Robert had already learned the joys of giving. He promptly started passing the quarters out to other boys at the club, treating everyone to an enjoyable afternoon.
