A Rapid City man who was accused of being involved in the 2007 murder of a Rapid City woman in 2007 made a plea agreement Monday.

Aaron Jones, 25, pleaded guilty in 7th Circuit Court of misprision of a felony for not telling police about the murder of Tamara Magic, who was killed Nov. 8, 2007.

Magic, 44, was found beaten and stabbed to death at her home.

Tad Blackburn, 22, was arrested in November and charged with first-degree murder in Magic's death.

Jones originally faced one count of being an accessory to first-degree murder and an alternative count of accessory to second-degree murder, in addition to the misprision charge.

As part of a plea agreement, the state dropped the accessory charge on the condition that Jones plead guilty to the misprision charge and to possessing a controlled substance, a charge not related to the murder case, according to Pennington County Deputy State's Attorney Ken Varns.

Jones had also to agree to testify during Blackburn's trial, Varns said.

"He is going to be required to testify truthfully about anything he has knowledge about concerning the death of Tamara Magic," Varns said.

Jones will be sentenced Sept. 8. He could face up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine for the controlled substance charge and up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine for misprision of a felony.

A trial date for Blackburn has not been set because the state has appealed a motion that 7th Circuit Judge Thomas Trimble granted to the defense. The motion was to suppress statements Blackburn made to investigators after his arrest.

Blackburn could face up to life in prison if convicted.
