This Labor Day weekend, the Sturgis Business Alliance will hold its first-ever Ford Mustang Rally.

Organizers are hoping to attract a Grand National event with more than 5,000 cars within the next three years. For this year, they are hoping for a few hundred cars participating.

Events planned for the weekend include Northern and Southern Black Hills poker runs, a show and shine, a Main Street swap meet, a street dance and drag racing.

The business alliance is sponsoring more than $3,000 in prizes for the show and shine and poker runs.

Since the annual motorcycle rally has made it difficult to attract year-round businesses to Sturgis, the Sturgis Business Alliance is focusing on developing Sturgis Main Street as a location for several rally-like attractions during the summer.

The Mustang Rally is the first in what the alliance hopes to be a series of tourism events aimed at revitalizing Main Street in Sturgis.
