State and tribal gambling regulators and casino managers will discuss industry issues at a two-day conference in Rapid City next week.

The South Dakota Commission on Gaming and the National Indian Gaming Commission are co-hosting the Oct. 23 and 24 conference at Radisson Hotel. Representatives of tribal gambling commissions in South Dakota and neighboring states and managers of Deadwood casinos are expected to attend.

NIGC chairman Phil Hogen, an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, said gambling businesses need to focus on efficiencies, just like all businesses. With the economic meltdown, he said, it is also important to demonstrate that gambling is still well regulated.
