Teachers in Rapid City, Chamberlain and Lead-Deadwood have won grants from the Qwest Foundation for projects integrating new technologies into classrooms.
The 10 winners statewide will receive $25,000. The local recipients in the state Department of Education-administered program included:
* Dave Sisson, Corral Drive Elementary School, Rapid City, to use global positioning system units in geography lessons.
* Sarah Duex, Rapid City Area Schools, to create independent interactive learning projects for special-needs students.
* Carol Greco, Lead-Deadwood Elementary School, for student-created news podcasts for the school's Web site.
* Shawn Cutler, Chamberlain School District, to improve student participation in all subjects by adding a SMART board to create an interactive classroom.
