GCC Dacotah Inc., operator of the cement plant in Rapid City, proposes a 7-mile-long covered above-ground conveyor belt in Custer County to carry quarried limestone gravel to a rail loading facility.

Because the project involves crossing public land, the federal Bureau of Land Management is seeking comments to an environmental impact statement on what is called the "Dewey Conveyor Project."

The 45-day feedback period will begin July 31, according to BLM news release.

For information on the project, go online to www.blm.gov/mt/st/en/fo/south_dakota_field.html. Copies also are available at the BLM field office at 310 Roundup St., Belle Fourche, SD 57717. Or field manager Marian Atkins can be contacted at 892-7001 or marian_atkins@blm.gov.
