WHITEWOOD - The Lawrence County Commission will open up discussion on a conditional use permit for a specialty resort near Whitewood during its Tuesday meeting.

Commissioners tabled the matter July 14 for Acorn Meadow Lodge southwest of Whitewood. Owner Barb Moore would like to enhance her property to accommodate a small number of campers and up to eight guests in a lodge facility on her rural property.

At least one set of neighbors is concerned about increased traffic on their shared entrance road. Spearfish attorney Roger Tellinghuisen, who is representing Dr. Kerri Greear, said the development in that area is an unwanted venture as far as his clients are concerned.

The Moores agreed to a set of conditions put forth by the county, but some questions remain regarding occupancy numbers and septic system.

The county has set aside time at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday to discuss the matter.
