Last year, a USDA Rural Development grant helped Kadoka to buy a fire truck. This year, a second grant will help install new water pumping equipment for the truck.

"This will allow us to better serve Kadoka and the surrounding area," said Rich Bendt, fire chief of the Kadoka Volunteer Fire Department.

The department serves 3,489 people in its area. The funding - $11,800 over two years - helps provide reliable equipment for emergencies.
