True West magazine, an Arizona-based publication, has ranked Deadwood No. 6 among its yearly Top Ten True Western Towns. Cheyenne, Wyo., was the top Western town for 2009.
True West editors determine winners based on how each town preserves its history through old buildings, museums and other institutions, events and promotion of historic resources, according to a news release.
The magazine honored San Diego in 2008, Helper, Utah, in 2007, and Sheridan, Wyo., in 2006.
