A Minnesota tribe has awarded a grant to Cangleska Inc. to continue its work against domestic violence and sexual assaults on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has awarded $250,000 to the agency. Half will be used to build a day care and administration building, and the remainder will build storage for clothing and other donated items, officials said.

The projects are slated for completion early next year. The Cangleska day care will serve community members, women in treatment, staff members and families using the shelter.

Cangleska has operated shelters on the reservation and in Rapid City since 1989. The nonprofit organization also offers several counseling and training programs, including the Sacred Circle national outreach resource center.

For more information about Cangleska, call 455-2290 or go to www.cangleska.org.
