RAPID CITY - Rapid City's two bowling alleys are going smoke-free for the Nov. 15 Great American Smokeout.

Both Robbinsdale Lanes and Meadowood Lanes are prohibiting smoking all day for the annual event started by the American Cancer Society.

The purpose of the Smokeout is get smokers to go without cigarettes for 24 hours.

The South Dakota Department of Health issued a news release reminding South Dakotans that the South Dakota QuitLine is available toll-free at 1-866-737-8487.

"Quitting smoking is one of the healthiest lifestyle changes a person can make, but it's also one of the most difficult," said Dr. Gail Gray, director of the Health and Medical Services for the South Dakota Department of Health.

The QuitLine offers free coaching and nicotine-replacement products or medication to people who sign up and participate in the coaching.
