RAPID CITY - The state has dismissed the case of a Rapid City man scheduled to go to trial starting Wednesday, Oct. 17, on charges of raping a child.

Justin Young, 28, was charged with two counts of first-degree rape, each carrying a maximum sentence of life in prison.

The charges alleged that Young had raped a 6-year-old girl in 2001.

Lara Roetzel, deputy state's attorney for Pennington County, said Tuesday that the case was dismissed by the state in the "best interest of justice."

Young has been free on bond.
