The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology's Museum of Geology is inviting the community to join it in welcoming a set of new arrivals, a family of brontotheres.

Because the exhibit is too large for current display areas in the Museum of Geology, they will be displayed at the new Paleontology Research Center, scheduled for completion in 2010. Until then, however, the fossil of the youngest brontothere will be on display at the museum.

The school will host a "baby shower" Saturday, Oct. 17, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., to celebrate the new exhibit, featuring a registry list of items needed to outfit and equip the laboratories, collections and libraries of the new building.

The museum is also holding a "Name the Baby" contest, open to children from kindergarten through fifth grade. Kids can color a picture of a brontothere and choose a name. All entries must be received by Wednesday, Oct. 7. The name will be announced at the Oct. 17 event, and the winner will receive a free T-shirt.
