RAPID CITY - A Rapid City man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court to 97 months in prison for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
Scott Martin, 47, was indicted in February for possessing and selling meth near Rapid City between April 2005 and February 2007.
Martin pleaded guilty in August to possession to distribute a controlled substance.
Martin will be on supervised release for four years after his imprisonment.
U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier sentenced Martin.
School of Mines offers science series

RAPID CITY - The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology is offering a Science Series this fall to help create and encourage interest in science and math for young kids.
The Fall Science Series consists of five classes and is offered to elementary-and middle-school students. The classes offered to students in grades 3-5 include: Math Tricks & Games, What a Drag!, Changes of Energy, The Human Machine, and Structure Building. The classes offered to students in grades 6-8 include: The Limits of Paper, Math Tricks & Games, Parachute Performance, Suspension Bridge, and The Human Machine.
Classes are scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. on the following Thursdays: Nov. 8, 15, 29 and Dec. 6 and 13. Registration fee for the series is $45 or $10 for an individual class.

School of Mines alumnus named "Hottest Bachelor"

RAPID CITY - Cameron Anderson, a 2006 South Dakota School of Mines & Technology industrial engineering graduate, has been selected by Cosmopolitan magazine as one of the 50 hottest bachelors in the United States.
The November 2007 issue finds Anderson representing the state of Kansas, where he works as an engineer for an aerospace company in Wichita. As part of the contest, he flew to New York City for a photo shoot. For more information, visit http://www.cosmopolitan.com/hot-guys/bachelors.
This isn't the first time a School of Mines alumnus was recognized by the magazine. In the November 2004 issue, Charlie Murray, a 2003 industrial engineering graduate, was selected to represent the state of South Dakota.
