RAPID CITY - Defenders of the Black Hills, in conjunction with the Teton Sioux Nation Treaty Council, are commemorating the 156th anniversary of signing of the 1851 Fort Laramie treaty with a day of events beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Mother Butler Center, 221 Knollwood Drive.

The program begins with an honoring ceremony for seven elder women. Reports on environmental events within the treaty territory are scheduled.

A potluck lunch and evening meal will be served. A showing of the film "Lakota Voices in the 21st Century" and a round dance will follow the dinner.
