The Bureau of Land Management is offering firewood near Sturgis.

About 50 cords of firewood are cut into 10- to 20-foot lengths and piled at the Fort Meade Trailhead at the junction of S.D. Highway 34 and the BLM Road. There also are some firewood lengths available.

Interested parties must buy a firewood permit from the South Dakota Field Office, 310 Roundup Street, Belle Fourche. Permits cost $5 per cord, with a four-cord minimum. Instructions and directions about how to get to the firewood will be given upon purchase of a permit.

The firewood is the result of an ongoing project to reduce hazardous fuels and to improve forest health.
