A 20-year-old Rosebud man has pleaded not guilty to forcibly raping an elderly woman.
Floyd Black Spotted Horse Jr. was indicted on a charge of aggravated sexual abuse by force. The maximum penalty upon conviction is life in prison and a $250,000 fine.
According to U.S. District Court documents, Black Spotted Horse is accused of assaulting the woman, who lives on Rosebud Indian Reservation, on May 20. He was detained pending trial.
In other federal court news:
* David Bujarski, 60, Rapid City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard Battey to 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. Bujarski was originally indicted on additional charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm, and maintaining a place for drug distribution. He pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge, which involved incidents between March 2005 and March 2006 in Rapid City.
In a related case, Vicki Rowland, 49, Rapid City, was sentenced by Battey to 63 months in prison and five years of supervised release for maintaining a place for the purpose of distributing and using methamphetamine. She pleaded guilty to the charge.
* John McCormick, 45, Englewood, Colo., pleaded guilty to obstruction of correspondence for stealing mail from a mailbox in Custer on July 3. He was originally charged with several additional counts of mail theft. The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing will be Oct. 29.
* Rosemary A. Hislop, also known as Rosemary A. Kocer, 45, Rapid City, pleaded guilty to theft of government property for illegally collecting Social Security benefits on behalf of another person. Hislop admitted to accepting Social Security benefits meant for her son between Feb. 1, 2006, and Sept. 1, 2006, never reporting to the Social Security Administration that her son had moved to live with his father. According to federal court documents, the current loss to the Social Security Administration is less than $1,000. The maximum penalty is one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. Sentencing will be Oct. 15.
* Harry Young, 42, Pine Ridge, pleaded guilty to distribution of a controlled substance. He admitted to distributing cocaine Nov. 21, 2002, in Pine Ridge. The maximum penalty is 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Sentencing was set for Oct. 17.
* Jeremy Grant Decoteau, 27, Eagle Butte, pleaded not guilty to a three-count indictment charging him with first-degree burglary, retaliation against a federal witness, assault with a dangerous weapon and aiding and abetting.
* Amber Long Chase, 27, Wakpala, pleaded guilty to distribution of a controlled substance for distributing marijuana on Sept. 25 in Wakpala. The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. She was detained pending sentencing Nov. 20.
* Celeste Pretends Eagle, 27, Wanblee, pleaded guilty to obtaining assistance by fraud from social services with a value of less than $200. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Pretends Eagle admitted to knowingly making a false statement to the Department of Social Services on Feb. 24, 2005, which resulted in her fraudulently receiving food-stamp assistance. The maximum penalty is one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. Sentencing will be Oct.17.
* Abraham Yellow Horse, 18, Pine Ridge, pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft of mail matter. He is accused of stealing mail from a mailbox in Oglala on April 9. The maximum penalty upon conviction is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. No trial date was set.
