A Lawrence County jury convicted a Missouri man of second-degree robbery and grand theft for stealing a purse from a 57-year-old woman July 25 as she left a Deadwood casino where she worked.

The woman was injured as she tried to hold on to the purse.

Dennis Collis, 35, of Worthing, Mo., was found guilty after a two-day trial, which ended Wednesday.

The jury of nine men and three women deliberated for two hours before finding Collis guilty, according to a news release from the Lawrence County State's Attorney's office.

Circuit Judge Randall Macy, who presided over the trial, ordered Collis back to court Dec. 13, when he will face a charge of being a habitual criminal. He allegedly has two earlier burglary convictions.

Collis now faces a maximum of 20 years in the state penitentiary, but the sentence could be longer if he is found guilty of being a habitual criminal.
